I don&#8217;t really want to do that.&#8221;</p>
<p>For someone who runs an enormous team it was somewhat curious that he didn&#8217;t show a rather more open mind about learning influencing abilities. However But then again, it depends on your interpretation of influencing. If your perspective is that to influence you need to get that person out of their mind, out of control, and then make them do something they do not want to do, then I am on your side and against that kind of influencing, if indeed it is possible.</p>
<p>Perhaps I should refer here to one of my favourite sayings from ex-USA President Dwight D. Eisenhower: &#8220;Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something that you desire done because he wants to do it.&#8221;</p>
<p>That sort of leadership, to get people to do things because they feel that they want to do them, requires persuasion and influence. It is in the creation of that kind of influence that NLP can be exceedingly useful, when used correctly.</p>
<p>When we discuss influencing in NLP we refer to the subtle use of language and body language to make a feeling of companionable feelings within our audience so that they will feel comfortable with what we want them to do.</p>
<p>In my next article I will tell you more about the ways that you can subtly influence others just by understanding their thinking patterns.</p>
