Perhaps it was yesterday or perhaps many years ago. Remember everything about it, from how you stood, how you were breathing, how you felt, what you noticed and what you were listening to right at that moment.

Now, if you are imagining that you can’t do this because you have not felt this way before, then imagine how someone who is calm and confident would stand, breathe and feel. Perhaps this is a person you admire for being this way. When you’ve achieved the sought after state, amplify it to make it as dramatic and attractive as it can be. This is how one of your other %LINK1% comes into play. This is referred to as anchoring. In this case, an anchor is a trigger for the state change. Therefore, when you are fully experiencing the state such as calm and confident, that you want to bring back sooner or later, you might, for instance, scratch the back of your neck or squeeze together the thumb and index finger of your left hand; it is your preference. In this way, the selected action becomes part of the calm and confident state. So, when you do the trigger action again, for example, as you think about or enter the situation where you would previously have been anxious, you naturally enter the desired resource state.

You are probably now recognizing the value of practising the %LINK1% of producing resource states and anchoring. These are NLP techniques that you can apply to all areas of your life. Of course, the beauty of mastering these skills is that the ensuing states will drastically strengthen your communication skills and have a positive effect on the other individuals that you come into contact with.
